Porsche Cayenne Turbo Vs. Bmw X6 XDrive50I Comparison Road Test [w/video]
These aren't ordinary SUVs. These fly in the face of conventional wisdom and defy the law of physics to lap a racetrack faster than cars. These are even quicker than the Audi A6 by two and a half seconds. X6 isn't really an SUV, it's an SAC (Sports Activity Coupe), though more than that, pumped up by 4x4 platform running humongous tyres. Its one of the most inductive type of vehicle, either you love it or you hate it. There is no middle path. It occupies enormous real estate with offering seating for only four. X6 rides like a sports car and those high-performance tyres might give you terror at merge sight of mud.

Being a BMW there's an engine with 4.4litre V8 direct-injection petrol-fed by twin turbochargers and delivering 411PS of power to all four wheels. It's an engine that revs all the way up to 7000rpm with torque 600Nm from just 1800rpm to 4500rpm. The X6 uses BMW's acclaimed xDrive 4-wheel drive chassis to which is added a torque vectoring system called Dynamic Performance Control that distributes torque not just between the front and rear axles but side-to-side between individual wheels.
Came the Cayenne before the X6, Porsche's first SUV and it really flies.
The first thing which comes with Cayenne is the noise, the turbocharged V8 petrol makes all sorts of whoosh and popping noises that make you uncomfortable in the drive. At full throttle, the torrent of gases from the exhaust pipes seems like you driving a low flying fighter jet. The V8 engine displaces 4.8 litre gets direct petrol injection and kicks out a fat 500PS of power. That's just 25PS short of the AMG Merc. There's an equally round 700Nm of mountain moving torque which takes Porsche to easily trump BMW on acceleration. While X6 takes six seconds for 0-100kmph sprint, the Cayenne takes just over five. That's the performance of a two ton super SUV taking a minute to chew that. There's rich steering feedback that what you expects from a Porsche supercar and not SUV. Switch PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) into Sports mode and the Cayenne rolls down on its 21-inch alloys and goes smashing down every rule in SUV history. Body is fully controlled inside with mechanical grip nothing short of achieving excellence. Such a magical chassis designed by Porsche engineers which show in there.
Supercar SUV, that's the Cayenne with a lap time of 2:05 (1 minute and 20 seconds quicker than the X6) seals this discussion. Addictive speed, hilarious drive and superb performance, that all goes to the opposite rival of the X6, the supercar SUV Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
